Abstract
This study was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of the 1982 periodic health examination applied on civil servants and private school workers (public employees). The study poplation was 20, 314 public employees worked in Kwangju and other adjacent areas, while the subsequent analytical informations were obtained from 2,449 employees of them who received the follow-up examination for the suspection of having one or more of eight disease categories. The summarized results were as follows:
1. 2,449 out of 20,314 examinees were referred to secondary examination, which contributed to 12.1 % of referral rate.
2. Predictability of indirect chest radiographs for the actual demand of medical management of pulmonary tuberculosis was 7.5%, as the lowest one in the predictability rates.
3. The most frequent cause of referral/follow-up was the suspicion of cardiovascular disease, mainly of hypertension. Though the predictability of primary check-up for the estimation of blood pressure was relatively high as 30-80%, concomitant evidences of hypertension were rarely found.
4. Predictability of primary SGOT measurement for liver disease was 40.8% as the highest among the predictability¡¯s.
5. Conclusive diagnosis of diabetes were made only in 7.9 io of cases suspected by primary examination.
6. Advisable guides to enhance the efficiency of the periodic health examination may include the standardization of the test items and sustained actual management of health information¡¯s.
